Are Cranes Designed to Be Overloaded? – Reva EOT Cranes and Electric Wire Rope Hoist Manufacturer

Myth : Normal Misconception is that  Cranes are designed to be overloaded, it is nothing to worry if we lift overload of 25% or more.
  1. Also since wire rope is having factor of safety of 6, hence we can safely lift twice the load.
  2. Also crane has overload protection device it will stop once it cannot lift, nothing more will happen.
Fact : It is dangerous to lift more than the rated SWL. The crane is designed for SWL only.
  1. The factors are taken based on he studies done earlier by learned people to ensure that there are no accidents during the life span of the crane.
  2. Overload protections are provided but should not be 100% relied on. The load being lifted should be weighed or calculated before being lifted.
  3. Crane accidents can be fatal to Life. Hence use it responsibly.
