Contact UsFlammable gases, vapours, mists, and dusts form an explosive atmosphere with the oxygen in the air if present or leaked during the manufacturing process. If this atmosphere is ignited, explosions take place, which can result in severe harm to human life and property. Since Electric Hoist or Cranes houses electrical Switchgears, Motors etc which can produce sparks and these little sparks can provide sufficient ignition in above atmosphere to form explosions, Reva provides EX electric cranes, explosion proof electric cranes suitable for Zone 1 & 2 (gas) and Zone 21 & 22 (dust) or suitable for both areas i.e combination of Zone 1 & 2 (gas) and Zone 21 & 22 (dust).
EX cranes and winches are also known as anti sparking cranes, spark proof cranes or explosion proof cranes. Although there are many standards which are followed worldwide to define the above zones, all of them reach to the similar conclusions. ISO, BS, NEMA are some of the names. Indian standard IS:2148 was also available earlier but is now withdrawn and international standards are being followed instead.
Zone classification
Gases
Zone 0 – A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture with air of dangerous substances in the form of gas, vapor or mist is present continuously or for long periods or frequently.
Zone 1 – A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture with air of dangerous substances in the form of gas, vapor or mist is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally.
Zone 2 – A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture with air of dangerous substances in the form of gas, vapor or mist is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for a short period only.
Dust
Zone 20 – A place in which an explosive atmosphere in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in air is present continuously, or for long periods or frequently.
Zone 21 – A place in which an explosive atmosphere in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in air is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally.
Zone 22 – A place in which an explosive atmosphere in the form or a cloud of combustible dust in air is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for a short period only.
